Winter Pool Party Ideas

Publication date : Monday, December 8th, 2014

Who says that pool parties are just for the summer? If your family is already developing a severe case of cabin fever, now may be a great time to plan that winter birthday party at an indoor swimming pool or host a New Year’s bash at one. A hotel, YMCA or local gym are locations that have indoor swimming pools and the facilities to host parties. So, dig out your swimming gear and start planning an epic winter pool party!

The Invitations

For the invitation, consider a catchy phrase such as, “The weather outside is frightful, but swimming inside will be delightful.” Or, “Baby it’s cold outside. Join us for an indoor pool party.” These work for just about any type of pool party, whether it’s for a birthday or family reunion. You can send home thank you notes or treats that say, “Thank you snow much for coming!” Just be sure that you inform your guests to bring all the essentials such as a bathing suit, beach towel and perhaps a Santa hat.

The Decor

Now it’s time to plan for your decor. If you’re celebrating the holidays, you can do a Grinch theme or Santa theme – think Christmas in July style. New Year’s bashes are always a blast because the decor is clean and simple. To kick up the fun factor, purchase glow sticks that can be used in the pool at night. The colorful glowing effect fit right in with the New Year! Other ideas include snowflakes, an arctic theme or a winter wonderland, all perfect for a child’s birthday party.

The Games

Once people get into the pool, they’ll probably just want to swim and splash and have fun. After all, it’s been a while since they’ve gone for a swim! But you can play structured games if you wish and your crowd doesn’t mind, such a Marco Polo, Shark!, a rubber duck race or water volleyball. Obviously, an older crowd will enjoy mingling and relaxing in the pool, so be sure to have pool loungers on hand.

The Food

For a kids’ birthday party, pizza, sandwiches cut into fish shapes, Goldfish crackers and fruit skewers are all examples of foods that can be served at a pool party. A pitcher filled with blue Kool-Aid that says, “Don’t Drink the Pool Water!” is always a hit. If you’re hosting a holiday party, consider a festive spread that includes an assortment of crackers, cheeses and dips. The same can be used for a New Year’s celebration. Don’t forget a festive punch bowl or sweet table to round out your food selection.
