How to Keep Your Pool Clean from Dust, Sand and Debris

Publication date : Monday, July 27th, 2020

Keeping a pool clean is tough work! Even with regular skimming and cleaning, fine debris like dust, sand and dirt can get into the pool and settle to the bottom, forming a layer of sediment. These debris can come from anywhere like trees and warm breezes, but they’re most commonly brought in from the bottom of people’s feet.

So how can you keep your inground pool in Mississippi clean from top to bottom? Aside from hiring a pool maintenance company to do the work for you, here are some things to try.

Rely on Your Pump and Filter

A pool pump and filter work together to remove fine debris from the pool water – this is what you should be relying on to keep your pool clean. This equipment does a good job of making sure that the water is filtered through and that fine particles are removed. Your pump should run for about 8 hours a day or less.

Sweep the Walls

The walls of your pool require scrubbing from time to time. This loosens particles that are stuck to the walls, allowing them to travel to the bottom of the pool where they can be removed. (Be sure to scrub the walls when the pump is off.) For the stuff that sits on the pool floor, run the vacuum. This will collect the debris that the pump isn’t getting.

Backwash the Filter

A pool filter works hard to remove debris from the water, but in doing so, it also collects and stores some of the gunk. Over time, this can build up and cause clogging, preventing the filter from working to its full capacity.

There are different ways to backwash a filter depending on the type of filter you have. For example, sand filters are the easiest to keep clean because you can use the pool water to rinse dirt and debris from the filter. Look at the manufacturer recommendations or contact Paradise Pools to determine how to backwash your filter.

Choose an Automatic Pool Cleaner

Many of our customers are happy with automatic pool cleaners because they take a lot of the effort out of removing fine debris from the water. If you need help picking out an automatic pool cleaner, contact Paradise Pools. We’ll be happy to go over your options and which one is best for your needs (i.e., robotic, remote-controlled).
