It all began in 1979 when Ken Beard Sr. decided to have a pool installed for his family. Before the project was finished the builder had skipped town, the pool was an unfinished mess, and Ken had decisions to make. He decided to finish his own pool, and in doing so, he emerged with the philosophy that he could do it better. Ken began building pools in 1980 and, with the help of his family and others opened his first retail store in 1981. His goal: educate pool owners and buyers; teach them how to take care of their pools in a way that would make it easier and provide trustworthy, dependable products and services.
